Wyatt assumes Pleasant Grove High School project
Classes will likely open as planned at the new Pleasant Grove High School, as Gary C. Wyatt’s team assumed construction coordination and leadership in March after a previous contractor was deemed insolvent.
“We will complete the work so as to provide a project that lives up to the expectations and specifications of the Jefferson County Board of Education and Lathan Associates Architects,” said John Wyatt.
Construction of the $44 million dollar facility, estimated at 244,000 square feet, was awarded to Wyatt by bonding company Travelers Surety. The school was scheduled to open for the beginning of the Fall 2010 term. That opening is expected to proceed despite previous delays, Wyatt said.
“We’re glad to be able to provide this service to the bonding company we’ve been working with for more than 20 years,” said Wyatt. “We’re also grateful to be able to have an opportunity to serve the community, as we’re a solvent contractor able to provide warranty. Now our job is to provide motivation and sense of urgency, assuring these subcontractors that the effort is moving forward.”
Ongoing Wyatt projects, including the State of Alabama’s Robotics Research, Development and Training Center, a LEED gold-certified facility under construction at Decatur’s Calhoun Community College, and the newly-rewarded Shelby Hall at the University of Alabama’s Science and Engineering Complex will not be affected by the firm’s new Pleasant Grove responsibilities, Wyatt said.
“We’ll be using the subcontractors already working in Pleasant Grove. We have the manpower here to provide coordination and leadership, and we’re glad to be able to step in to try to make sure that school opens on time.”
